For valentines day we decided that we missed having samson around. he was our first pet as a married couple. samson was a fiesty, borderline mean, dwarf hampster. i can't tell you how many times i almost lost a finger trying to pet him. he was cute...but not kid friendly! so, we decided it was time to have a mini furry friend around again. adam had said he wanted two hampsters this time (we talked about naming them ross and rachel hehe!) but hampsters are solitary creatures, so we were introduced to gerbils. which rarely bite (Halleluiah!) and are extremely social and need to go as a pair at least. well if my honey wanted gerbils for valentines day that is what he was going to get!! :) i went to wal-mart to buy the supplies, we still had some leftover from samson. then i went to the pet store in town to find my honey his gerbils! well, they didn't have any....not even a freakin hampster. just baby rats, i knew he wouldn't be excited about that (he had a bad experience with a pet rat). so i came home PISSED because the stinkin pet store just ruined my valentines day plans. then i remembered there was a pet store in hermiston. i looked it up in the phone book, but the number was disconnected. so i called 411 and they couldn't find a number for it. so i decided i was going to drive the 40 minutes to hermiston and HOPE they had my gerbils! i prayed along the way :) i had decided if they didn't have what i was looking for i was going to give them a piece of my mind for not having a phone number available and making me drive all that way for nothing. fortunatley for them they had three gerbils, all females....we weren't going to go there if they weren't the same sex! :) so, i got two females and practicaly cried tears of joy! they were put in a cardboard box for the trip home, and i almost tossed them out the window...they SCRATCHED furiously the entire way home. i got home and set up their little house and was very proud of myself for my dedication ;) they have not bit us...YAY! they are not as social as we thought but we are enjoying them. we have only had one run away, and she is safely back in her home...thank goodness! their names are reepicheep and aurora (that is sleeping beauty's name, cuz all this girl does is sleep!)
This is their gerbil palace, we have had fun adding to it and getting new toys for them to play with! it is amazing how they can climb in those tubes...they totally defy gravity! i had the loft open to show aurora, it is not always open like that :) i hope you enjoy the pics of the new farmers. i will be posting again next week...my little brother jeff is going to state again this year. hopefully i will have some great pics from baker city! :)

As a child, I dreamed of a gerbil/rat cage that traveled all around my room, so that wherever I went, my pet could follow:)
